Commentator explains controversial remarks about Yamal: I am just praising his talent

In March 2024, former Atletico Madrid and Mallorca goalkeeper Herman Burgos, nicknamed "Monkey", was fired by Movistar for making inappropriate remarks to Yamal in the commentary game. Burgos has now responded to the incident.

At that time, Barcelona's Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain in 2024, Burgos served as Movistar's commentator. He said in his pre-match commentary: "If Yamal cannot succeed in the football stadium, he may end up making a living under the traffic lights on the street."

This remark aroused dissatisfaction between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, causing them to refuse to accept Movistar's interview after the game, and Burgos was fired by Movistar afterwards.

In a recent interview with the media, Burgos responded and explained to the incident that year:

"This is just a joke, a way to praise the talent of players. You must know that there are not so many street artists and geniuses in the world. Where are the geniuses often? The answer is on the street..."

Burgos also revealed that after the incident, he took the initiative to contact Movistar and asked to resign to avoid causing more trouble. "The next day I called my colleagues and told them I was leaving so as not to cause trouble for the company."

Burgos also mentioned that after the incident, he sent messages to many people, including Laporta. "I introduced myself to Laporta and said 'I am Hermann Burgos', but he said 'Dear Monkey'. I replied 'Sir, please don't call me a monkey'. He responded 'I am a footballer, everything is over'."
