Recently, former Heat player Haslem talked about his retirement.

Talking about when he realized it was time to retire, he said: "It was probably when we signed Whiteside. I thought at the time, 'This guy can't take away my playing time.' I didn't know he could touch the basket without leaving his feet. I grabbed the board. I couldn't beat this guy. When I saw this, I knew it was time to leave."

The Heat signed Whiteside during the 2014-15 season, and Haslem did not retire until the end of the 2022-23 season.
