Raphinha: It’s a thing of the past that Brazilian players are undisciplined and playful. Talent alone is not enough in football.
. Looking back now, I'm glad I didn't give up because every sacrifice was worth it.
When you encounter the problem of adapting to Barcelona, what is the most difficult thing?
The most difficult thing is dealing with the pressure and expectations. Barcelona is a big club and coming here means I have to prove my worth right away. The team's playing style is also very unique, and it took me a long time to fully adapt to the rhythm and requirements here. It was frustrating at first because I wanted everything to fall into place quickly. But with patience, hard work and the support of my teammates, I gradually found my place. It was a difficult time and one of the most important stages of my growth.
Mention is very important in football matches. Do you think there is a connection between mentality and injuries?
Absolute existence, the mind and the body are completely connected. When you feel stressed, anxious, or mentally exhausted, your body will reflect this too. Recovery also becomes more difficult when you have a bad mindset. I think a lot of injuries have a psychological component, maybe due to stress, nervousness or a lack of focus. Therefore, having a good attitude is just as important as taking good care of your body. When you are mentally stronger and calmer, you will perform better and your risk of injury will be reduced.
Criticism from fans and the media can be very harsh for players. Are you no longer affected by this criticism?
I wouldn't say I'm completely immune to it, but I've learned to cope better. Criticism used to hurt me, now I know how to filter it out. I will listen to those constructive criticisms, those opinions that can help me improve, and try to ignore those purely negative voices. As I get older and gain more experience, I understand that I can’t please everyone, and what’s really important is staying true to myself, working hard, and giving my best for my team and my family.
Do you think more can be done to eradicate racism in football?
More can indeed be done, and while some progress has been made, racism still exists on the pitch and it is unacceptable. We need stricter measures and harsher penalties, and more importantly, education. This is not just a matter of sanctions, but to change people's minds, cultivate awareness from an early age, and let everyone understand that racism has no place in football and society. As players we have a responsibility to speak out, but this is a fight that belongs to everyone.
What kind of legacy do you hope to leave to football?
I hope people will remember me not only for my performance on the pitch, but also for my character, respect, love for football and the inspiration I left to a new generation of players. Of course, I also want people to remember my championships and achievements, and most of all I hope that kids from the slums or impoverished areas can see what I went through and say, "If he can do it, so can I." That will be the best thing I can leave behind.
