Scott: Triangle offense and Princeton system won t work now because there are not enough players

Recently, Lakers' celebrity and former NBA coach Byron Scott was a guest on the podcast program "Fast Break". He said the triangle offense and Princeton system won't work in the contemporary NBA because "there is not enough players and players."

Scott believes: "When you run a triangle offense or the so-called Princeton system, if the player has a high enough ball quotation, there is no need to shout tactics at all. Because the defense will tell you what to do.

"As long as the players are smart enough, they can understand it in an instant. If the opponent presses forward, we will expand the area backward so that the field will be more spacious, and then we can use tactical cooperation such as cutting the back door.

"This makes the opponent unable to defend, as you said, just a tactical starting point. For example, we call 'opposite' and the opponent blocks the pass route of the bottom corner, and we pass the ball back to the top of the arc, and then run the two players on the weak side through double cover."

"It all depends on on-the-spot reading," Scott added, "I think the fundamental reason why some people say that these tactics don't work today is that the player's ball quota is insufficient."
