Post talks about the "Three Crazy Braves": Defend well and force the opponent to take difficult shots to limit the second attack.
In the NBA regular season, the Warriors defeated the Clippers 98-79. The reporter went to the scene today, followed the game and attended the press conference after the game. The following is part of Post's interview compiled by Xiaoba. Reporter: Hey, you guys did a great job on the defensive end tonight, especially when defending Zubac. Which places do you think played a key role? Post: We just have to maintain a "sense of participation" in defense, especially when guarding against the opponent's strong pick-and-roll. You know, try to force him to the weak side and let him make his own decisions. Don't foul, don't give him a three-point chance. We made a few mistakes in that regard in the first half. Other than that, I think our overall defense was very good and the whole team performed very well. Reporter: You look a little different on the defensive end this year. How much effort have you put into improving your defense this summer? Post: Yeah, I spent most of this summer in the weight room, focusing on getting stronger. I felt good on the court tonight, I felt powerful. The opponent was obviously a very good, strong and physical player, so I think the time I spent in the summer was somewhat rewarded. Reporter: Did you gain weight last fall or this summer? Post: Oh, no? The weight is about the same. But it's really hard to figure out - in this league, it's a psychological game. On the one hand, you have to be big enough to take on those post players; but on the other hand, if you are too heavy, you will be slow. So I'm probably between 252 and 255 pounds now. If it is lower than 252, I will feel that I am not strong enough to withstand those opponents; but if it exceeds 255, I will feel that my movements are not flexible enough. So now it’s mainly about finding that “sweet spot.” But compared to this time last year, I have indeed gained weight. It was around 240, 247 at the time, and now it's about 253 pounds. So, um, gained a few pounds. Thanks. Reporter: You just mentioned Zubac. He has caused you a lot of trouble in the past, especially last year. The key to limiting him tonight? Post: You know, this is actually the result of the joint efforts of the whole team. When I'm guarding him, I need to help in the pick-and-roll and my teammates are behind me to provide support, which is very important. It's really helpful to have Draymond on the back line, he fills in the gaps really well. On top of that, you have to keep him under the basket and prevent him from grabbing offensive rebounds. I feel like having me as the starter gives our starting lineup a little extra size advantage, which is effective against him. Reporter: You had an 18-point advantage in the third quarter. This has actually become a trend in recent games - you averaged nearly 35 points in the third quarter. Why do you think the team made such adjustments in the second half at the beginning of the season? Post: Sorry, are you asking why we started strong, or why we played well in the third quarter? Right? Reporter: Yes, what I want to ask is, what adjustments did you make after the halftime break so that you can continue to play with this intensity in the third quarter? Post: Well, I can’t say I’m completely sure. In fact, our start to the third quarter was similar to the first quarter. Overall, that was a theme throughout the game - we did a great job on the defensive end from start to finish, forcing the other team to take difficult shots while limiting their second-chance opportunities. So there is no special secret, it is just that the defensive focus continued throughout the game. Reporter: The team's rotation is relatively flexible. Sometimes you can start and play many minutes, and sometimes you may have less playing time. How did you adjust your mindset to deal with this situation? Post: For me, it feels great to be able to really make an impact tonight. To be honest, I didn’t feel like I really had much impact on the game in the first four games. So, personally, it felt really good to help the team win tonight. It also shows that we are a deep team. We have a deep roster and someone can step up every night. So like I said, we're a really deep team, which is great.
