Each body: Barcelona intends to create a special roof for the new Camp Nou, and the installation project will be postponed until 2027

According to "Personal System", the Barcelona club plans to create a special roof for the new Camp Nou Stadium. Due to the complex construction, the installation project will be postponed to 2027 or even later.

Barcelona President Laporta announced that the new Camp Nou Stadium will be committed to becoming "the best stadium in the world". This ambitious plan was supported by club agency vice president Elena Ford and Barcelona's space operations director Joan Centres. The most striking part of the project is its unique roof design. The club confirmed that roof installations, which were originally scheduled for 2026, will be postponed until summer 2027.

The model chosen by Barcelona was inspired by Atletico Madrid's Riyadh Aviation Metropolitan Stadium, which is different from the New Bernabeu Stadium, which adopts a closed design and is equipped with a retractable roof, which can easily lead to excessive internal temperatures. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid chose to keep the stadium open. The main difference is the scale: the Metropolitan stadium can accommodate 70,500 spectators, while the refurbished Camp Nou will have a capacity of more than 104,000, making construction even more complicated.

The main contractor in charge of the transformation is Turkish company Limak Construction, which will subcontract to a professional company to perform this critical phase of work. Camp Nou's new roof will resemble horizontally placed bicycle wheels, supporting the entire structure by thick tension cables.

Before this, a base needs to be built about two meters above the third floor stand to support the roof. The beams and pillars on the top can already be seen in the pictures released by the club, which the engineers call "great lift". The entire timetable depends on the timely completion of this work. If the support points are not ready in time, resulting in the roof being unable to be installed in 2027, the final completion date may be postponed to 2028. It is reported that some inside the club believe that in this case, "there will be someone responsible for it."

So far, the club has attributed delays to labor shortages, working hours restrictions and delays in material delivery. But there is no excuse for roof installation, which is a key sign of the completion of the project.

In order to install the membrane structure covering the stands, the work must be carried out without an audience. For this, it will take about four months for Barcelona to leave the stadium vacant. The most likely solution is to repeat the current approach: that is, to arrange all away games at the end of the 2026/27 season, and continue to play outside the game at the beginning of the next season.
